Dean Koshelanyk provides no direct reference in his social media to cycling and AT issues or needs (accessed Sept 2018). There are some recommendations re public transit.

From Vote Winnipeg 2018 (Winnipeg Free Press) accessed 2 Oct 2018:

Q: “What should Winnipeg’s plan be for the future of public and active transit?” “Pause focusing on dedicated transit ways and instead focus on increasing the speed and reliability of transit across the entire city through the use of dedicated bus lanes, priority signals and central controlled traffic signal systems.

1) $70 monthly bus pass for all rider categories
2) 3 hour transfer times for those using single rides
3) improving the accuracy of the bus transit apps and bustxt service
4) getting the buses to run on a more accurate schedule
5) 24/7 bus schedules on critical bus routes

Make the transit system safe and easier to use for all and the increased demand will enable us to eventually move back to adding dedicated transit ways.”

Q: “What is your position on reopening Portage and Main to pedestrians?” “Portage and Main has been handled incredibly poorly by our current city council. I will support whatever option the voters of Point Douglas choose. Regardless of the results of the ballot question I will be working hard to ensure that the intersection is made to meet the needs of people with accessibility issues as soon as we possibly can.”

From Winnipeg Votes 2018 (CBC) accessed 18 Oct 2018:

Q: “What is your stance on opening up Portage and Main to pedestrians?” “In most parts of the ward, everyone either doesn’t care or is violently against it. It’s tough having a ward that’s so spread out. It’s more the people downtown who want it. My stance is that I don’t know if we need it open. I do know we need to make it more accessible. There haven’t been any reports on how to make it more accessible. It’s a tough question for me. I will respect whatever Point Douglas voters decide. Even if it’s a “no” I will work to make it more accessible.”

The candidate did not complete the 2018 all-candidate environmental survey: A coalition of Winnipeg Environmental Organizations compiled questions for an all-candidate (Mayoral and Councilor) survey with questions relating to the environment, including AT.
