Q: “What should Winnipeg’s plan be for the future of public and active transit?” “I will fight for affordable and effective transit for Elmwood-EK. We have some of the highest transit use rates in Winnipeg and have the opportunity to capitalize on our proximity to downtown, the Forks, St. Boniface and North Kildonan. It should not be cheaper to drive and park downtown than it is to bus.
Car Drivers (we have 2 cars) should love Transit and BRT because it has potential to reduce traffic congestion, road wear, wait times and gives options to families.
Travelling by bus should feel safe and be affordable to everyone. Extending the times routes run, and connecting the various parts of our city is critical to becoming the city we are on trajectory to become.”
Q: “What is your position on reopening Portage and Main to pedestrians?” “Walkability is a big issue for me. I see the problems in Elmwood-EK around this: poor lighting, lack of crosswalks, speed of traffic, lack of transit, closed businesses and garbage are just a few things that affect our feeling of safety when we walk in our community. I am generally in favour of improving walkability downtown but will vote NO because I feel that for a smaller investment we could dramatically improve the walkability of Elmwood-EK.”
Email Correspondence with Bike Winnipeg dated October 11, 2018:
I would like to see the cycling infrastructure improve in Elmwood-EK with the following simple fixes
1. Tie in the cycling paths of St. Boniface, Transcona, Point Douglas and the North End to Elmwood-EK’s paths.
2. Revisit the decision that designated Roch a cycling route.
3. Promotion of cycling safety programs like Kids of Mud and CAN-Bike.
4. I would be a role model for cycling as a viable form of commuting.
