Home   Winnipeg Election 2018   Transcona 2018   Steven Lipischak – Transcona 2018

No specific information or platform on cycling and active transportation. There is a statement and position re public transit.

From Vote Winnipeg 2018 (Winnipeg Free Press) accessed 2 Oct 2018:

Q: “What is your position on reopening Portage and Main to pedestrians?” “I believe that we have more pressing issues to spend our hard earned money on at this time, and that if on October 24th, the vote is no, then Council and the Mayor need to listen to the residents.”

Q: “What should Winnipeg’s plan be for the future of public and active transit?” “I will start with the same answer as above. While I am not against growth or spending money, I am against not spending wisely. In Transcona, most people are against Rapid Transit… But not against another idea of outting more buses on the streets during peek hours and having more on feeder routes to get people moving…more buses= more workers= more money in our community.”

From Winnipeg Votes 2018 (CBC) accessed 18 Oct 2018:

Q: “Will you work with other wards/municipalities to help improve active transportation links across the city?”  “If there’s a call for it, and more people would want to be connected everywhere else, I’m sure we could come up with a plan to connect more things like the Transcona Trail. If there’s one or two people asking for it and the rest of the community is asking for something else, I would go with what the rest of the community wants.… I’m being elected not on what my thoughts are. I’m going to be running on what the community wants.

Q: “What can be done to improve transit service in the area?”  “I spoke to the riders, just to see what they said, and I spoke to the operators, just to see what they had to say about rapid transit or things like that. I would think, and this is unofficial, 90 to 95 per cent of people that I spoke to are against rapid transit, against spending the money, including the operators. What they’re suggesting, and I think it makes more sense, is that we put more buses on the roads during peak times, and have feeder routes.”

The candidate completed the 2018 all-candidate environmental survey: A coalition of Winnipeg Environmental Organizations compiled questions for an all-candidate (Mayoral and Councilor) survey with questions relating to the environment, including AT.
