SUMMARY:Local Bike Groups Launch
DESCRIPTION:Bike Winnipeg is an inclusive group of people and organizations working to make cycling in Winnipeg a safe\, enjoyable\, accessible and convenient transportation choice year–round. The organization has been a strong participant in active transportation development initiatives and stakeholder committees for public consultation since it was incorporated in 2007.  Much of our efforts have been accomplished by our strong and energetic volunteer base and our hard–working executive director Mark Cohoe.  We are proud of what we have accomplished\, and we have big ideas to help continue improving active transportation facilities for people from 8-80 in this great city! \n\n\nWe are excited to announce that as a part of our strategic plan\, we intend to expand our advocacy work into the City of Winnipeg’s community committees.  The city of Winnipeg has 5 community committees (City Centre\, Assiniboia\, Lord Selkirk-West Kildonan\, East Kildonan-Transcona\, and the Riel Community Committee).  Each committee is made up of the 3 councillors whose wards fall within the boundaries of that committee (please see the City of Winnipeg website for more details the committee structure). \n \n\n\nThe objective of our expansion is to foster neighbourhood-level cycling communities\, to bring activities and events to under-serviced communities within the City outside central Winnipeg and to expand the geographic footprint of Bike Winnipeg’s events and activities \n\n\nIf you are interested in learning more about our community committees\, we will be having an open house in Point Douglas which is part of the Lord Selkirk-West Kildonan community on Friday January 31 from 6-8 pm.  The Little Brown Jug (336 William Ave) has generously donated their space for our event.
