SUMMARY:Chief Peguis Trail Extension West PIS
DESCRIPTION:The final round of public engagement for the Chief Peguis Trail Extension West project is planned for November 2017\, which includes another series of land owner and stakeholder meetings\, as well as final public information session which will include a viewing of a video simulation of the proposed route. The purpose of this round of engagement is to present the final recommended design and seek comments from the public and stakeholders. \nDate:  Tuesday\, November 7\, 2017\nTime: 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.\nLocation: Red River Community Centre\, 293 Murray Ave. \nYou can also view the information session boards and provide comment through an online comment sheet. \nCritical north/south cycling routes such as the NW Hydro Corridor spine and Winnipeg Beach Rail with Trail pathway need to be connected across the Cheif Peguis Extension with pedestrian & bicycle bridges. \nWe concerned that current plans lack proper grade separations for: \n\nThe east/west crossing of McPhillips (a 6 lane high speed\, high volume truck route) matching the level of service being provided to motorized vehicles.\nThe north/south crossing of the Northwest Hydro Corridor Greenway over Chief Peguis Trail\n\nThe Northwest Hydro Corridor Greenway is identified as part of the proposed cycling spine network in the city’s Pedestrian and Cycling Strategies.\nProvides connectivity between the Future Precinct D and the McPhillips/Leila Regional Mixed Use Centre\nAt the very least\, this should be left as a future crossing to be paid for out of developer fees coming out of the Precinct D plan\, but planning needs to be completed as part of this process.\n\n\nThe North/South crossing of the proposed Winnipeg Beach Greenway\n\nForms a major north/south route in the City’s cycling network\, providing access between the future Precinct G/Riverbend neighbourhoods and the Templeton-Sinclair/Margaret Park neighbourhoods\nProvides a connection to the planned protected bike lanes along Leila (access to the McPhillips/Leila Regional Mixed Use Centre)\n\n\n\n\n\nIn addition\, we would like to see construction of the Winnipeg Beach Rail with Trail pathway between Templeton and Murray Road included as part of this project.\n\nThe Winnipeg Beach Greenway (along the Winnipeg Beach rail line) is included in the City Pedestrian and Cycling Strategies\, and should be included in the work associated with the realignment of Ferrier Road.\nThis greenway will create an important link between the proposed Precinct G development and important amenities to the south (schools\, parks\, community centres\, …)\, and when completed will create an important link to the Arlington Bridge (with its protected bike lanes) and beyond.\n\nMore Resources: \n\nCity of Winnipeg Chief Peguis Trail Extension Web Portal\nBike Winnipeg description of Winnipeg Beach Greenway from 2014 Election Campaign\nBike Winnipeg description of Northwest Hydro Corridor Greenway from 2014 Election Campaign
